IPIA Mission Statement

The mission of the Institute of Public and International Affairs (IPIA) is to expand
and enhance the University's activities and programs in several interdisciplinary areas of excellence, including public policy, applied politics, international socio-political economics and cross-border security, government, and governance.

IPIA promotes its mission through activities that include:

1. Enhancing faculty competitiveness for external grants through sponsorship of conferences, symposia, debates, seed and travel grant programs, working papers series, and a research listserv.

2. Linking faculty across various units who share similar research interests to create cutting-edge, interdisciplinary research teams.

3. Supporting undergraduate and graduate programs in public and international affairs.

4. Expanding undergraduate and graduate students' research, political participation, and civic engagement opportunities in Utah, the U.S., and other countries.

5. Convening symposia and workshops that help define the nature of public issues and identify and evaluate solutions.

6. Conducting informative research for public policymakers, administrators, and interested citizens.
