Dr. Kowaleski-Jones is interested in the ways in which youth are affected by family structure, community resources and public policy. Prior research used fixed effect techniques to examine the effects of duration of time spent in various family structures on adolescent outcomes. She is also involved in work that will explore associations among community resources and dimensions of youth competence. Kowaleski-Jones' research agenda also focuses on the effects of food assistance programs and food insecurity on child well being. Her most recent work explores the familial and contextual determinants of youth energy balance.
