The mission of the Institute of Public and International Affairs (IPIA) is to stimulate, promote and support interdisciplinary, international, social science-related research and provide value added toward successful applications for funding.
IPIA promotes its mission through activities that build research connections among social science and related faculty and advanced graduate students in different departments and colleges who share interdisciplinary research interests. A prime example has been the initiation and support for groups of faculty and graduate students who share common interdisciplinary, international, social science-related research and teaching interests. Examples include:
- The Consortium for Research on China and the Chinese (CROCC) that is currently expanding into new geographic areas and cross-national substantive foci in order to open opportunities for those with research interests across Asia.
- Monthly forums of “Policy at the Podium,” that where faculty test new research ideas and works-in-progress in the general area of public policy.
- Building and coordinating research links and opportunities for faculty members with interdisciplinary research-oriented centers and programs such as with the Asia Center, the Siciliano Forum, the Tanner Human Rights Center, and the Global Health Initiative.
